The Pills That We Take.

Medication; it’s our lifeline,  or is it? We go to our doctors,  and they give us our prescriptions, then they send us home and tell us that all will be okay,  but will we? Medication; we have to take them, but that doesn’t mean that our Medications have to take us.

The side effects alone may cause us to feel sick,  and to lose our sense of self,  but the drugs we take do not mean that we  have to lose hope.

There are days when we might feel hopeless, and like we are ready to give in, those are the days we have to remember that gratitude is warm coat we have to wrap ourselves in.

Medication; you have to take it, don’t let it take you.  You are so much more than the pills that you are given, and if you’re finding yourself feeling down,  continue to look up because you only have one life, embrace it, and be grateful today,  tomorrow,  and always

The Voice inside us all.

A poem about our inner voice and how it can heal.

For the longest time, I allowed myself to listen to the negative,  unloving, deceitful voice inside myself; each day, I would awake, and I would move forward with my day,  but in my mind, I was still be held back.  I didn’t see the beauty in my life and the uniqueness in myself; I only saw the darkness surrounding me and the roadblocks up ahead.

When I chose to see my life positively and listen to my positive inner voice,  my life and my perception of it began to change.  I saw things in a new light,  and the roadblocks were now wide open roads for me to travel on and move forward freely with my life.

The voice you choose to listen to can save your life; the voice you choose can change your life.
The voices you choose can cause you harm, make you feel sad, or give you new hope, even during those times when you feel at the end of your rope.
The words you speak to yourself will cause you to feel down or will allow you to keep your chin up when life feels unsound. These words can sting, or they can sing, but most importantly, they can heal.
So, If you continue to look up, even when you’re down, your life will start to turn right around. It may not happen fast, it may take some time, but the voices you choose will make you begin to feel just fine.
Each new day will bring something different, so allow yourself to speak, feel and let go, allowing you the room you need to listen to the voices that will help you grow.
Life can be either messy or sublime, but when you choose to talk to yourself with the right voices, life will seem less complicated, and in the end, reassure you that life is not terrible all the time.

The Biggest Decision Of Your Life

There are big decisions, and there are little decisions that I must make today, but the more I think about it, the biggest decision I need to make today is to be happy. As time goes by and life moves forward, my happiness is the only thing that matters today.

I could look back and continue to dwell on my past and focus on all of the things that I did wrong; I could continue to regret the people I hurt and the things that I did not do, but I only have today, and today I am choosing to be happy.

My life has never been perfect, and I have never been perfect either, but I know no such thing as perfection in life, only flaws in this messy, beautiful life. I choose to embrace these beautiful flaws in myself and my life and be happy because I only have today; what happened yesterday is gone, and what might happen tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.

New doors are opening for me, and I will enter them with open arms, choosing to be happy, hopeful, and grateful from this moment forward.

Each new day is a chance for you to start fresh and embrace what’s new and good for you. Allow yourself today to let go of your past and put aside your regrets. You have this brand new day to thrive and move forward, and most of all, to be happy for all that it is.

A Glass Half Full

I am an optimist; I have spent too much of my life being a pessimist. I looked at the glass half empty instead of half full, and I focused on the bad instead of the good, and I thought that my life was worse than anyone else when in reality, many others have it so much worse.

As I began to look at my life and realize just how good it really is compared to others around me, I started to open up to the good around me. Yes, my life isn’t perfect; yes, I have three neurological disorders that include epilepsy, which gets in my way from time to time; but things could always be worse, and I could still choose to think differently about it all, but I don’t. Life’s too short to take anything for granted.

I let myself suffer for too long, which only led to deep heartache, sadness, and almost death. When I approached that final moment, and I was ready to end my life, I didn’t realize who else I would be hurting; I didn’t think of anyone else but myself. Looking back on that day, I am thankful that I didn’t follow through on what I had planned for myself because life had more important things set in place for me.

I am an optimist, and I don’t take my life for granted. I choose to be grateful each day, and I don’t complain about the things that I cannot change. I focus on the good in my life, and I embrace my mess. I understand that life is not perfect, and neither am I. I have my days when I feel angry, and when I feel sad and downright miserable along with every other emotion, I don’t hold onto them. I let myself feel them now, sit with them, and let them go.

Life is too short to spend it being angry, sad, miserable, and frustrated at the world all the time. It is time to feel good, and I will. Will you too?

New Year, New Intentions

It’s January 1st, 2021, and I have never been so ready to move forward into a new year than this one.

I intend to love more; not just others, but most importantly myself. By choosing to love myself more deeply each day will allow me to open myself up to loving others, and sharing in their joy and happiness more freely.

I intend to heal more; life is sometimes unkind and can cause things that are out of my control to happen. I choose to step back and breathe and focus on myself when I need to and allow my body, mind, and soul to heal.

I intend to inspire; I will move forward into this new year and encourage more people with my story. Inspiring others is a fantastic feeling, and I cannot wait to do more of it.

Finally, I intend to continue to stay grateful for my beautiful, messy life; I only have one life to live, and while it may not be perfect, this life is mine, and I am grateful. My body might ache, and my brain might be a little broken, but all in all, this life of mine is amazing, and I am thankful.

Merry Christmas to all of you that celebrate! May this day be full of love, happiness and joy for everyone. The Holidays can be filled with stress; don’t allow the stress of the past, stress of the present, and stress of the future to turn into something even bigger for you. Accept it, acknowledge it, and let it go. It is allowing yourself to feel joy. Keep on keeping on everyone, and have a Merry Christmas. ✌🎄

The Promises We Keep

As this new week opens up, I promised myself a few things; one was to be open to new possibilities; I have been dealing with some recent health challenges over the past few weeks, and this week I am hopeful for a change. Two, I promised myself to continue to embrace the imperfections; life is never perfect, and neither am I, and I will accept that. Three, continue to stay in gratitude; this life is mine, and I will continue to live it each day and choose to be happy even when times get tough.

I am confident in my abilities and choose to focus on doing my best and being my best for me. Life is not a race, and so, I will take a step back and breathe when I need to, allowing me to continue to be confident in all that I am.

As your new week opens up, what can you promise yourself? What will you choose to focus on to think with a clearer mindset, even after an event or new challenge that you are facing?

Gratitude is a great teacher, and I have found that focusing on appreciation has allowed me to get through some of life’s most challenging times. Affirmations have also been very helpful in my healing journey. I AM affirmations are the most powerful; I have included three of my favorites below. Choose what works best, and move forward.

I am confident in my abilities to move forward.

I am grateful for this new day.

I choose to focus on what is good in my life.

Choose To Be Awesome

Have you ever just woken up and said to yourself, “This day is going to be AMAZING!” to only run into one problem after another problem, after another, and realize that your AWESOME day turned out to be not so AWESOME at all, Me too.

I wake up in the morning, and I feel fantastic thinking that I will have an amazing day, and there are those days that I do. But then there are those days that I wake up, and I may have had a seizure through the night, and I feel a bit groggy and stiff in the morning. I open my eyes, and even though I might not want to embrace the day and make it amazing, I do anyway.

Today, and everyday.

I get out of bed, stretch my arms up high, and begin to move my body. I take a deep breath in and a deep breath out, and I say thank you for the new day that I have before me. I exercise, shower, plan my day out and make an effort to have the most AMAZING day possible.

As the day progresses, I might have another seizure, or I might not, and if I do, I will still choose to make my day as awesome as possible. I will stay thankful for the day and embrace the beautiful mess that life has given me.

When you find yourself waking up expecting to have an AMAZING day, but then life rears its head and pulls a fast one on you, don’t let it stop you from having an awesome day. Please open your eyes, and realize that you have been given this day to make it only as AMAZING as you have the power to make it. Choose to make it as Awesome as possible by embracing your beautiful mess and being grateful for all of it.

What is it that you are thankful for today? Let me know in the comments section, or write it down in your journal.

Love the life you live

A poem about embracing your mess

Photo by Patrick Tomasso on Unsplash

You’re alive today, isn’t it grand? You’re ALIVE today, give yourself a big hand. There were so many people who weren’t given a chance, to wake up with a smile on their face and say I have one more chance.

You’re ALIVE today, so allow yourself to smile, to feel the air in your lungs, to walk that extra mile.

Feel the wind on your face, listen to the birds chirping too, smell the sweet air around you touch the people you love; hold them near, use all your senses and be happy you are here.

You were given this chance, don’t take it for granted, embrace the beautiful mess that is yours, and be grateful for it all, there are so many people who didn’t wake up to fall. Falling is a part of life, we can’t get away without stumbling once or twice, but think of what a privilege it is to do so, isn’t it nice?

Choose to dance even if you can’t, feel the rhythm of life move you, and embrace the energy running right through you. There are so many out there that can’t walk and are wishing they could, so feel the rhythm, and be happy that you can move at all even if it’s tough for you.

Allow yourself to let go, and be who you are. Be silly, be stupid, be weird, and laugh at the mess that you’re, there are so many who weren’t given that chance today, consider yourself blessed, even if at times you may feel stressed.

Life can seem tough at times, but when you’re grateful you will see, that life is a privilege not given to everyone, and how beautiful it can be.
