I PROMISE TO BELIEVE

On Monday, I found out that I needed to have brain surgery done; I haven’t been feeling quite right for some time, so I finally decided to go to my neurosurgeon to get everything checked out. I have known my surgeon for practically my entire life, so I wasn’t nervous when discussing what he needed to do; I didn’t expect him to tell me that the issues have been like they were for so long. As we talked more about the procedure, though, which will be a shunt revision, I did start to get a little apprehensive. Thoughts ran through my head about all of the what if’s of having the surgery, and I began to panic.

My stomach tightened up, my palms got sweaty, and I began to think about all of the possible things that could go wrong. All of this ordinary, but none of it necessary. When I left his office, I began to breathe again, and as I walked, I started to think a little clearer about what the doctor needs to do. I called my parents and girlfriend and explained what needed to be done, and even more, my fear began to disappear. I began to believe that even though this is a not-so-good day, something good will happen for me by moving forward with this surgery.

As the week progressed, I continued to believe that something good will happen, and despite feeling not my best throughout this week, I am hopeful that getting this surgery will make me feel better.

I promise myself to believe that even though life will throw me not-so-good days life, there will always be good days to follow, and I will embrace them.

Make yourself a promise today to believe that a good day is always around the corner waiting for you, so even when you have a not-so-good day, you will have the hope to continue to move forward.

The Biggest Decision Of Your Life

There are big decisions, and there are little decisions that I must make today, but the more I think about it, the biggest decision I need to make today is to be happy. As time goes by and life moves forward, my happiness is the only thing that matters today.

I could look back and continue to dwell on my past and focus on all of the things that I did wrong; I could continue to regret the people I hurt and the things that I did not do, but I only have today, and today I am choosing to be happy.

My life has never been perfect, and I have never been perfect either, but I know no such thing as perfection in life, only flaws in this messy, beautiful life. I choose to embrace these beautiful flaws in myself and my life and be happy because I only have today; what happened yesterday is gone, and what might happen tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.

New doors are opening for me, and I will enter them with open arms, choosing to be happy, hopeful, and grateful from this moment forward.

Each new day is a chance for you to start fresh and embrace what’s new and good for you. Allow yourself today to let go of your past and put aside your regrets. You have this brand new day to thrive and move forward, and most of all, to be happy for all that it is.

A Glass Half Full

I am an optimist; I have spent too much of my life being a pessimist. I looked at the glass half empty instead of half full, and I focused on the bad instead of the good, and I thought that my life was worse than anyone else when in reality, many others have it so much worse.

As I began to look at my life and realize just how good it really is compared to others around me, I started to open up to the good around me. Yes, my life isn’t perfect; yes, I have three neurological disorders that include epilepsy, which gets in my way from time to time; but things could always be worse, and I could still choose to think differently about it all, but I don’t. Life’s too short to take anything for granted.

I let myself suffer for too long, which only led to deep heartache, sadness, and almost death. When I approached that final moment, and I was ready to end my life, I didn’t realize who else I would be hurting; I didn’t think of anyone else but myself. Looking back on that day, I am thankful that I didn’t follow through on what I had planned for myself because life had more important things set in place for me.

I am an optimist, and I don’t take my life for granted. I choose to be grateful each day, and I don’t complain about the things that I cannot change. I focus on the good in my life, and I embrace my mess. I understand that life is not perfect, and neither am I. I have my days when I feel angry, and when I feel sad and downright miserable along with every other emotion, I don’t hold onto them. I let myself feel them now, sit with them, and let them go.

Life is too short to spend it being angry, sad, miserable, and frustrated at the world all the time. It is time to feel good, and I will. Will you too?

The Promises We Keep

It’s a brand new day and a brand new week; three more days until the end of the new year, and despite all that has happened throughout these past ten months, I am thankful!

I am thankful for life; even though it may seem challenging, I know that I am tougher, and I continue to move forward. Know how tough you are.

I am grateful for love, love is a fantastic feeling, and it continues to push me forward; open yourself up to it.

I choose love over hate, trust over fear, and happiness over sadness. My life is not perfect, but I know that nothing in life is, and I promise to live each day to the fullest.

I promise today to be strong when I am weak and let my strength push me towards a new tomorrow. I promise to focus on positive feelings because I know that positive emotions are always better than negative ones. I promise to continue to believe that life will be better than today because nothing in this life is permanent.

As we go into these last three days, I want to thank all of you for following me and for inspiring me with your writing; I appreciate you all. And as you go into your last three days, what promises will you make to yourself so that you can create the future that you want for yourself?

The Promises We Keep

As this new week opens up, I promised myself a few things; one was to be open to new possibilities; I have been dealing with some recent health challenges over the past few weeks, and this week I am hopeful for a change. Two, I promised myself to continue to embrace the imperfections; life is never perfect, and neither am I, and I will accept that. Three, continue to stay in gratitude; this life is mine, and I will continue to live it each day and choose to be happy even when times get tough.

I am confident in my abilities and choose to focus on doing my best and being my best for me. Life is not a race, and so, I will take a step back and breathe when I need to, allowing me to continue to be confident in all that I am.

As your new week opens up, what can you promise yourself? What will you choose to focus on to think with a clearer mindset, even after an event or new challenge that you are facing?

Gratitude is a great teacher, and I have found that focusing on appreciation has allowed me to get through some of life’s most challenging times. Affirmations have also been very helpful in my healing journey. I AM affirmations are the most powerful; I have included three of my favorites below. Choose what works best, and move forward.

I am confident in my abilities to move forward.

I am grateful for this new day.

I choose to focus on what is good in my life.

Choose To Be Awesome

Have you ever just woken up and said to yourself, “This day is going to be AMAZING!” to only run into one problem after another problem, after another, and realize that your AWESOME day turned out to be not so AWESOME at all, Me too.

I wake up in the morning, and I feel fantastic thinking that I will have an amazing day, and there are those days that I do. But then there are those days that I wake up, and I may have had a seizure through the night, and I feel a bit groggy and stiff in the morning. I open my eyes, and even though I might not want to embrace the day and make it amazing, I do anyway.

Today, and everyday.

I get out of bed, stretch my arms up high, and begin to move my body. I take a deep breath in and a deep breath out, and I say thank you for the new day that I have before me. I exercise, shower, plan my day out and make an effort to have the most AMAZING day possible.

As the day progresses, I might have another seizure, or I might not, and if I do, I will still choose to make my day as awesome as possible. I will stay thankful for the day and embrace the beautiful mess that life has given me.

When you find yourself waking up expecting to have an AMAZING day, but then life rears its head and pulls a fast one on you, don’t let it stop you from having an awesome day. Please open your eyes, and realize that you have been given this day to make it only as AMAZING as you have the power to make it. Choose to make it as Awesome as possible by embracing your beautiful mess and being grateful for all of it.

I’M GOING TO MAKE IT.

I am feeling good today, yesterday was not so good, but today is better. I will continue to stay encouraged through this beautiful mess and not get discouraged.

I took a break from much of anything yesterday, mostly because I couldn’t think through the pain that I was experiencing. I had a kidney stone working its way through me, and I was too tired and also in pain to do anything.

I choose to feel encouraged

But I am not complaining. Today is a new day, and while although yesterday I couldn’t do much, I am not going to get discouraged. I am going to continue to move forward and appreciate how far I’ve come. I feel a bit better today, not perfect, but better, and I will continue to embrace my challenges and choose to allow them to make me into a stronger person.

As you move forward through today and the rest of this week, don’t get discouraged by a setback. Stay encouraged, and continue to move forward. If you feel that you can’t do something, step back for a minute, and allow yourself a moment to breathe and realize that life is never perfect, and nothing in life is ever permanent either.

Continue to stay grateful, and if you encounter a setback through this week, remember that a setback is a set up for a comeback, and when you feel yourself falling back, pick yourself up and fall forward. Keep on keeping on.

An Attitude Of Gratitude

Today is Thanksgiving, and I am thankful for so much. I am grateful for my life and all of its ups and downs, eventhough, at times, there may seem like there are more downs than ups. I am grateful.

I am thankful for my strength to get through this crazy time we are all living through right now; it has not been easy, and I have had my moments, but I am stronger because of those breakdowns, and I am grateful.

I am thankful for my support system; I appreciate every person in my life who has helped me get through these tough times and so many others.

I am thankful for my family; we may have our disagreements, but I still love every one of them through thick and through thin. After all that has happened, I realize that this is no time to hold a grudge and hold on to the past. It is time to let it go and move forward. I am thankful, grateful, and blessed to have each one of you by my side.

I am thankful for my health and my broken brain. It may not be the best, and my brain may not be either, but I am grateful. Things could always be worse.

I will continue to keep on and embrace this beautiful mess and be thankful for it all.

My broken brain and Gratitude

As this new week opens up, I am thankful. It is four days before Thanksgiving, and I want to remind myself that while my life is not perfect and I don’t have everything I want out of it; yet, I am thankful for what I do have.

I have a brain that might act up sometimes and tends to misbehave when I least expect it to, but at least I have a working, operating, thinking mind. It allows me to complete simple tasks, and it enables me to complete large ones, too, even though those tasks might take a little longer to complete than others. It is a brain that is complex and hard to figure out, and as each new day passes and the more complicated it gets, the more I begin to realize that I must start to appreciate the three-pound mass inside of my skull.

I am not in the best living situation right now, I may be alone, but I am not lonely. Sometimes when I feel lonely, I remind myself that I am not alone and that I have people in my life who are there to help.

I have connections near and far, and it is those connections that keep me grounded and keep me pushing forward. I am thankful for each person I meet, and I am grateful that they continue to be in my life.

I will continue to be thankful for this new day and this new week. It is gratitude that keeps me moving.

THANKFUL,

GRATEFUL, BLESSED

As you approach this week, be thankful for the little blessings in front of you and be grateful for those small victories too. It is those small victories throughout our week that add up to the big things and make things feel good.

Don’t take this life for granted, and be thankful for it all. Keep on keeping on.

I AM THANFUL FOR MY BRAIN

Love the life you live

A poem about embracing your mess

Photo by Patrick Tomasso on Unsplash

You’re alive today, isn’t it grand? You’re ALIVE today, give yourself a big hand. There were so many people who weren’t given a chance, to wake up with a smile on their face and say I have one more chance.

You’re ALIVE today, so allow yourself to smile, to feel the air in your lungs, to walk that extra mile.

Feel the wind on your face, listen to the birds chirping too, smell the sweet air around you touch the people you love; hold them near, use all your senses and be happy you are here.

You were given this chance, don’t take it for granted, embrace the beautiful mess that is yours, and be grateful for it all, there are so many people who didn’t wake up to fall. Falling is a part of life, we can’t get away without stumbling once or twice, but think of what a privilege it is to do so, isn’t it nice?

Choose to dance even if you can’t, feel the rhythm of life move you, and embrace the energy running right through you. There are so many out there that can’t walk and are wishing they could, so feel the rhythm, and be happy that you can move at all even if it’s tough for you.

Allow yourself to let go, and be who you are. Be silly, be stupid, be weird, and laugh at the mess that you’re, there are so many who weren’t given that chance today, consider yourself blessed, even if at times you may feel stressed.

Life can seem tough at times, but when you’re grateful you will see, that life is a privilege not given to everyone, and how beautiful it can be.
